The following are the areas in which we meet the needs of these children at Pumpkin House:

 

I.       Physical care of the children:

·        Providing the children with adequate, secure, clean and comfortable lodging facilities.

·        Providing adequate amount and variety of nutritious food and clothing.

·        Teaching the children to care for their personal belongings.

·        Providing adequate medical and dental care for the children.

·        Teaching them the importance of hygiene.

·        Teaching them good and acceptable social conduct which will ensure their physical health and safety as well as how to deal with emergencies like fire, accidents, etc.

·        At the appropriate age, making them aware of the adverse effects of tobacco, alcohol, substance abuse and sexually transmitted diseases.

 II.      Providing Spiritual and Moral Guidance

·        Providing basic moral education to the children to help them imbibe values that will make them responsible and caring adults.

·        Creating an environment in which the child grows up in the knowledge and understanding of God as a universal and loving father.

 III.     Ensuring Emotional Well-being:

·        Providing the children with a healthy, caring atmosphere where they can flourish under the loving care of the house parents and other staff.

·        Understanding and addressing any problems encountered by the children or special need they may have.

 IV.     Discipline:

·        Teaching the children the importance of discipline and inculcating in them socially acceptable behavioral practices, which will help them get along in society.

V       Education:

·        Providing the children with the means to obtain basic quality education and meeting all their needs in this regard.

·        Providing special coaching where necessary.

·        Providing interested children with the opportunity to obtain higher education at college/University in the fields of their choice.

·        Where necessary, providing vocational guidance and/or training in order to equip them with necessary skills for earning a livelihood.

VI.     Meeting Cultural Needs:

·        Ensuring that all the children receive equal opportunities and are not discriminated on racial or cultural basis.

·        Providing an atmosphere for each child to grow in his/her own linguistic, cultural upbringing so as to ensure that they do not feel disadvantaged or discriminated against.

 VII.    Leisure and Relaxation:

·        Helping the children make constructive use of their free time in pursuing activities like sports, music, art, etc. to develop their talent.

·        Providing sufficient time for rest, relaxation and play.
